Room in a flat share in Zürich, CHF 961

The room

The Room: The room is available from December 1st; earlier is possible by arrangement. The room is approximately 16 m2 and is located on the third floor in the charming old part of the house, with the window facing Militärstrasse. It has parquet flooring and a built-in wardrobe. The room is part of a section of three bedrooms that shares one full bathroom with a shower and one separate toilet. On the other side of the same floor, three additional flatmates have their rooms and a separate full bathroom. The six people living on the third floor also share a small second living room. The House: Our house is made up of two connected parts, a charming old building and a newer construction, with shared spaces spread throughout, giving each floor its own smaller, cozy feel despite being a large WG. We’re right by Langstrasse, one of Zurich’s liveliest areas, surrounded by bars, restaurants, clubs, and late-night shops. The neighborhood is also known for its nightlife and sex-work scene, so some street noise, especially on weekends, comes with the location. Basement and Courtyard Shared washing machines, dryer, storage space, and a bike shed in our private courtyard. 1st Floor A yoga studio and shoemaker’s workshop. Housemates also have the option to join some yoga classes. 2nd Floor The heart of the house: our large kitchen, main living room, and garden terrace, plus three bedrooms and a guest bathroom. 3rd and 4th Floors Six flatmates per floor, each with two full bathrooms, a separate toilet, and a small shared living room. 5th Floor Two bedrooms tucked into the tower, plus access to our rooftop terrace with views across Zurich.

We are looking for

We’re looking for someone who is genuinely excited about community living and wants to make this house a home, not just a place to sleep. Someone who enjoys making use of our shared spaces, spending time with their roomies, and connecting with people from different countries and backgrounds. We especially appreciate people who bring their own energy, ideas, and initiative to the WG, whether that’s suggesting a dinner, organizing a movie night, getting people together, or simply helping make the house a nice place to live. We’re definitely not a Zweck-WG, but that doesn’t mean being social 24/7. Everyone has their own life, and we value a good balance between being part of the community and respecting each other’s independence and personal space. Community also means sharing responsibility for our home. Everyone participates in the cleaning schedule and reliably does their part to keep the common spaces tidy. We also appreciate taking care of the little things along the way rather than always waiting for someone else to do them. Tell us a little about yourself! If the WG sounds like somewhere you could see yourself living, we’d love to get to know you a little! Please include the following in your message: • What’s your name and age? • Where are you from? • How you would describe yourself? tell us a little about your personality and what makes you you • What do you study and where? Or what kind of internship/apprenticeship are you doing? • What brings you to Zurich? • Why are you currently looking to move or searching for a new WG? • What do you enjoy doing in your free time? hobbies, interests, sports, creative things, going out, staying in… whatever gives us a sense of you • What are you like to live with and what do you appreciate about sharing a home with other people? • How long you are you planning to stay in Zurich and ideally in the apartment? And because we’d much rather get a feeling for your personality than read another formal application, a little bonus round: What movie would you propose for one of our movie nights? What song would you put on the speakers during a terrace hangout? What theme would you come up with for our next WG party?

About us

You’ll be joining a big, international WG of 17 students and interns from all kinds of places and backgrounds. Most of us study at ETH, UZH, ZHdK, or ZHAW, and English is our main shared language, although you’ll regularly hear German, Italian, French, and plenty of other languages around the house. Despite being a big WG, the house still feels intimate and cozy. There’s usually someone around for a chat, a coffee, or something spontaneous, and we genuinely enjoy spending time together. At the same time, everyone has their own studies, work, friends, and routines, so there’s absolutely no expectation to be social all the time. A lot of things here happen quite naturally: dinners in the kitchen, drinks on the rooftop, barbecues on the garden terrace, movie nights, a swim at Letten, an ASVZ session, going out together, or just ending up talking in one of the living rooms for much longer than planned. There are no scheduled WG activities. If you feel like joining, you join, and if you need an evening to yourself, that’s more than okay. Most importantly, we want this to be a place where everyone can feel at home and be themselves. Mutual respect matters a lot to us, and racism, sexism, LGBTQIA+ discrimination, ableism, or any other form of discrimination has no place in our home! Pleas note: We’ll only be able to consider applications from people who are genuinely interested in joining our community, meet the JUWO criteria, answer all of the questions above, and we prefer it when people come by in person for a casting :)
